City of Villains: I had to try something outside of Fantasy!

MMORPG.COM suckered me into buying City of Heroes / City of Villains Good versus Evil from Wal-Mart today. I received my 14 day free trial, and I have already leveled up my Brute to Threat Level 4.

Nice GraphicsThe graphics are superb, and they rise far above what I experience in DAOC. The level of customization startles the imagination, and so far it reigns as the major differentiation from other such games that I play. I had such great fun putting together my new anti-hero: Blastabulous, the scientific brute. This scantily clad young lady was running missions on my first night of game play.

The game play is typical. Start off in the tutorial, get your starting missions, grind the XP, and level at your trainers. Trainers are called Arbiters here, and your mission givers are actually named NPCs.

I certainly appreciate the technical difference between DAOC and City. NC Soft can utilize the latest in graphics; unfortunately, Mythic remains a wee bit behind due to its legacy code. DAOC areas are wider and game play coupled with player housing make it more feature filled.

I part with these screen shots of my first night’s experience:

Blasty

Blastabulous!

Overlook

Overlook from the evil headquarters.

Bank Robbery

My final mission of the evening, a bank robbery, constantly ended in failure when I went up against a private security Captain that considered RED to me.
